American Visionary Art Museum
My Impression of the Museum
05/03/2009 18:24My first impressions started before stepping into the American Visionary Art Museum. Ordained with a collage of glass particles, soda can tops & a tree completely made of glass-GORGEOUS. So I was thoroughly impressed before paying my way.... The pieces of art most memorable to me was the huge titanic-looking boat made completely out of toothpicks, yarn dolls, glass covered school bus and the model of a student at a desk. You will find pieces made out of just about every material you can think of- Rubber Bands, Glass, Bottles, Ceramics, Yarn, Paper Towels! Seeing these unconventional approaches of making art felt very liberating. The possibilities are endless. With mixed media being the rave these days, the work shown is definitely relevant to the artistic environment of the 21st century. I must admit that the museum was a lot smaller than I imagined. However I am glad to have checked off the AVAM as one of Baltimore's hot art spots.
